Utah Republicans opt out of Super Tuesday presidential primary

But the landing spot for the party's 2024 caucuses is not that far away on the calendar

State law in Utah grants the major political parties the ability to opt out of a presidential primary election, and Utah Republicans exercised that power on August 10, the deadline set in code for such a decision to be made.

Compared to past cycles, primary-to-caucus or caucus-to-primary movement has been minimal in 2023, confined to a handful of states but for a variety of reasons. Of course, the window for such decisions on the state level is not yet closed which could potentially open the door to further changes as summer winds down and gives way to autumn.

But what prompted the move in Utah and why are transitions between modes of delegate selection down for 2024 compared to previous cycles?
